Based in Nagoya, Aichi, Japan, Hoshino Gakki were one of the first Japanese musical instrument companies to gain a significant foothold in import guitar sales in the United States and Europe, as well as the first brand of guitars to mass-produce the seven-string guitar and eight-string guitar.
Founded in 1908, Hoshino Gakki Company started out in a period when Western music was still in its infancy in Japan. In the year and decades since then, a period of 115 years, we have kept step with Western music.
1935. Began to manufacture stringed instruments in Nagoya. 1955. Constructed the current building of "Hoshino Gakki Ten" at N0. 3-22, Shumokucho, Higashiku, Nagoya. 1962. Established TAMA Seisakusho Inc. (=the future Hoshino Gakki Mfg. Co., Ltd.) for electric guitars & guitar amplifiers. 1972.
Tama Hoshino, wife of Hoshino Gakki's first president, Yoshitaro Hoshino, lent her name to the TAMA brand we know today. In charge of the company's finances from its founding to the prewar era, Tama played a crucial role in Hoshino Gakki's management.
