Wilhelm Friedemann Bach (22 November 1710 – 1 July 1784) was a German composer, organist and harpsichordist. He was the second child and eldest son of Johann Sebastian Bach and Maria Barbara Bach. In 1763, Wilhelm Friedemann Bach received an offer to succeed Christoph Graupner as kapellmeister in Hesse-Darmstadt. Despite turning it down and remaining in Halle, he was still permitted to use the title »Hessen-Darmstadt Kapellmeister«.
Wilhelm Friedemann Bach's compositions, very few of which were printed, include many church cantatas and instrumental works, of which the most notable are the fugues, polonaises and fantasias for clavier, and an interesting sextet for strings, clarinet and horns.
