May 5, 2024 · There are lots of different types of clef, but the most common ones are: The treble clef. The bass clef. The alto clef. The tenor clef. The majority of instruments use one or more of these clefs to read music, but we’ll also examine some others.

Placing a clef on a stave assigns a particular pitch to one of the five horizontal lines, which defines the pitches on the remaining lines (i.e. those drawn above or below the stave) and spaces.
