Stephen Poliakoff CBE, FRSL (born 1 December 1952) is a British playwright, director and screenwriter. In 2006 Gerard Gilbert of The Independent described him as the UK's "pre-eminent TV dramatist" who had "inherited Dennis Potter's crown".
Stephen Poliakoff was born in London and educated at Westminster School and King’s College, Cambridge. He began his career in the theatre, becoming resident playwright at the National Theatre in London aged 22.
Stephen Poliakoff is a British writer and director of TV shows, such as Perfect Strangers, Shooting the Past, and Dancing on the Edge. He was born in 1952 in London and has been married to Sandy Welch since 1983.
