May 23, 2024 · Francois Truffaut, French film critic, director, and producer who was a pioneer in the New Wave movement. He was perhaps best known for the Antoine Doinel saga, including The 400 Blows, Stolen Kisses, and Bed & Board. His other notable films included Jules et Jim and Day for Night.
The 400 Blows received numerous awards and nominations, including the Cannes Film Festival Award for Best Director, the OCIC Award, and a Palme d'Or nomination in 1959, and was also nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay in 1960.
