Ub Iwerks (born March 24, 1901, Kansas City, Mo., U.S.—died July 7, 1971, Burbank, Calif.) was an American animator and special-effects technician who, among many other achievements, brought the world-renowned cartoon character Mickey Mouse to life. Iwerks was the son of an immigrant German barber.
