Charles Henry Selick Jr. (/ ˈ s ɛ l ɪ k /; born November 30, 1952) is an American filmmaker and animator, best known for directing the stop-motion animated films The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993), James and the Giant Peach (1996), Monkeybone (2001), Coraline (2009), and Wendell & Wild (2022).
Henry Selick is a film director, specializing in films with stop-motion animation. He has formal training as an animator. Selick was born in Glen Ridge, New Jersey, son of Charles H. Selick and Melanie Molan. He was mostly raised in Rumson, New Jersey. As a child, Selick took up drawing as a hobby.
