Mission San Rafael Arcángel is a Spanish mission in San Rafael, California. It was founded in 1817 as a medical asistencia ("sub-mission") of Mission San Francisco de Asís. It was a hospital to treat sick Native Americans, making it Alta California's first sanitarium.

Mission Today. Today, Mission San Rafael is a part of The Church of Saint Raphael parish in downtown San Rafael, California. Two worship spaces are on the property. One, the main Parish Church, was constructed in 1919. The other, the Mission Chapel, is a replica building of the original 1817 Mission.

It was named for Saint Raphael, the Angel of Healing. It was a good name for a mission created as a medical sub-mission of Mission San Francisco de Asis.
