The Trial: plot summary. Josef K., the chief cashier in a bank, is arrested one morning by two mysterious agents. However, they refuse to tell him what crime he is accused of. He is not thrown into prison pending his trial, but allowed to carry on with his day-to-day affairs until summoned by the Committee of Affairs.

The Trial, novel by visionary German-language writer Franz Kafka, originally published posthumously in 1925. Perhaps his most pessimistic work, this story of a young man caught up in the mindless bureaucracy of the law has become synonymous with the anxieties and sense of alienation of the modern age.
Chapter 1. On the morning of his thirtieth birthday, two policemen come to Josef K. ’s boardinghouse and inform him that he is under arrest. Josef, a successful chief clerk of a bank, is not informed of his wrongdoing. After a confusing interrogation, he is told to go to work as usual.
Written in 1914 but not published until 1925, a year after Kafka’s death, The Trial is the terrifying tale of Josef K., a respectable bank officer who is suddenly and inexplicably arrested and must defend himself against a charge about which he can get no information.
The Trial ( French: Le Procès) is a 1962 drama film written and directed by Orson Welles, based on the 1925 posthumously published novel of the same name by Franz Kafka. Welles stated immediately after completing the film: " The Trial is the best film I have ever made". [2] .
Franz Kafka's novel "The Trial" is one of the best stories ever written about the Innocent Man, and all the better because there is a sense that Josef K., its hero, secretly suspects that he must have done something wrong to deserve such cruel treatment from the authorities.
