Princess from the Moon (竹取物語, Taketori Monogatari, lit. The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter) is a 1987 Japanese film directed by Kon Ichikawa. It is based on The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter, a 10th-century Japanese fairy tale about a girl from the Moon who is discovered as a baby inside the stalk of a glowing bamboo plant.

Apr 25, 2019 · As the title indicates, the fanciful narrative revolves around a young woman from the moon, Kaya (Yasuko Sawaguchi), who finds herself stranded on Earth where she encounters bamboo cutter Taketori-no-Miyatsuko (Toshirô Mifune) and his wife, Tayoshime (Ayako Wakao), who have lost their young daughter.
Synopsis. A married couple of poor farmers has lost their only child, recently passed away. The woman Tayoshime (Ayako Wakaso) cries out loud to heaven. The father Taketori-no-Miyatsuko (Toshirô Mifune), goes into the forests and sees a strange-kind of electric storm.
