Red Beard (Japanese: 赤ひげ, Hepburn: Akahige) is a 1965 Japanese jidaigeki film co-written, edited, and directed by Akira Kurosawa, in his last collaboration with actor Toshiro Mifune.
A young doctor learns from a charitable town doctor in 19th-century Japan. The film features Toshirô Mifune, Ryûzô Kikushima and other stars, and explores themes of humanity, poverty and enlightenment.

In 19th-century Japan, a rough-tempered yet charitable town doctor trains a young intern. It's the early nineteenth century, and young Dr. Noboru Yasumoto has been summoned for a reason unknown to him to rural Koishikawa Medical Clinic from Nagasaki, where he has been stationed for three years completing his internship.
