Loosely based around Shakespeare's Hamlet, The Banquet is an amazingly well crafted film centered around themes of revenge and fate. It has the usual tropes of well executed wire work, heavy melodrama, lush set design and costumes, with director Feng Xiaogang and cinematographers Zhang Li, Xie Ze, Lam Fai-tai giving the film a great visual flair.
