This film is perhaps the most significant war film of all time and one of the few that explores the full breadth of a nation forced to face the consequences of its choices.

Perhaps the most uncomfortable taboo that Downfall breaks is having Hitler played with gusto by a German-speaking actor (although Bruno Ganz is actually Swiss.)

'The Downfall' is an apt title for this movie, as aside from depicting an important event in history; the film is fundamentally about failure. The entire movie focuses on one man's huge downfall, and it is both a heartbreaking and powerful cinematic experience. Der Untergang is not to be missed.
