Nov 25, 1998 · "Antz" has a more sophisticated sensibility and could play for adults attending by themselves. "A Bug's Life" is more clearly intended as a family film. Smaller children will respond to the threat from the Hoppers and the zaniness of the weird assortment of mercenaries hired by Flik.

Nov 25, 1998 · A masterclass in feature length animation pacing/editing, a bug's life stands up today as a great story well told (essentially seven samurai retold in a more family friendly format!). The excellent cast elevate the already strong script and the visuals hold up well on a 4k HDR screen.

'A Bug's Life' cobbles together nice animation, fun characters and a memorable voice cast. The premise is entertaining, as the film flies through its 95 minute run time. The score is pretty solid, also. Dave Foley is good in the role of Flik, while Kevin Spacey is actually great as Hopper; shame about the actor himself, obviously.
An inventive worker ant named Flik enlists a group of circus bugs to fend off the evil horde in a story that is reminiscent of Japanese filmmaker Kurosawa’s SEVEN SAMURAI and Italian filmmaker Federico Fellini’s LA STRADA about inept circus performers.
