This new three-part BBC War of the Worlds is that unusual thing: a period sci-fi. Between this and His Dark Materials, Sunday evenings have a lot of waistcoats.
The acting is decent, the characters so far are interesting and the cinematography is absolutely gorgeous. The show delivers a sense of mystery and is very ominous during most of the runtime, not to mention that the director isn't afraid to kill off characters, which brings a sense of realism to the situation.
