But trying to predict the election's outcome - and how Trump or Biden's policies may affect their holdings - is a losing game, von Lipsey said. "We just won't have the clarity with which to make an investment decision headed into the election until perhaps after the election is over," he explained. TikTok owner ByteDance is working with U.S. chip designer Broadcom on an AI processor to power its products. Reuters sources say the move would comply with Washington’s export controls, and secure an adequate supply of silicon for the social network. AI is running for parliament, sort of. Businessman Steve Endacott is standing in Britain's general election - with an AI-chatbot to do the talking for him. “Hi, I’m AI Steve, standing to be MP for Brighton and Hove. I’d love to hear what policies you’d like me to adopt.” Watchdogs say if Endacott wins, it will be the human, not the bot, that takes a seat. And OpenAI’s co-founder is starting his own firm. Ilya Sutskever says it will focus solely on making a model that is safe for humanity. He left OpenAI after playing a central role in the drama over the firing and rehiring of boss Sam Altman last year.

STORY: A Spanish-language billboard in Miami, Florida featuring Donald Trump and former Cuban leader Fidel Castro has generated significant debate in the lead up to the 2024 U.S. presidential election… The ad, which translates in English to “No to dictators, no to Trump" was installed by Mad Dog PAC, and is part of a campaign targeting battleground states to raise concerns about a potential dictatorship. “I thought, what better place to try to provoke a little conversation than Miami?” Claude Taylor, the chair of Mad Dog PAC, says the aim of the billboard is to alert the Cuban-American community to the risks of authoritarianism, drawing comparisons to 1959 Cuba. “I firmly believe that Donald Trump wants to be a dictator. And so if I'm speaking to a Cuban-American audience, it seems pretty obvious to me to make the comparison. I think it's an apt comparison. [FLASH] I'm opposed to dictatorships. I don't like them, I like democracy. And one of the tenants of democracy is free expression.” Local Trump supporters have criticized the billboard and rejected the comparison. JOHN: “You know, whatever you do to Trump backfires. Now he's getting free publicity and it's going to the Cuban community...” MAURICIO ECHEVERRY: "Oh, no, that, that. You can't compare Fidel Castro to Trump because it's not the same thing. Trump is not a communist. Well, I voted for Trump. I'm going to vote for him again." The billboard highlights the intense discussion expected in the upcoming CNN debate in Atlanta, as Trump and current President Joe Biden are neck and neck in national opinion polls, with a considerable slice of the electorate still undecided five months before the Nov. 5 vote.

Rep. Bob Good (R) declared Thursday that he will pursue a recount and a “full investigation” in his Virginia House election. Good, the chair of the House Freedom Caucus, is facing a close election against his primary challenger, state Sen. John McGuire. McGuire declared victory Tuesday night, though the race had not been called. Virginia observes Juneteenth, and the remaining ballots were not counted Wednesday, The Associated Press reported.

The Supreme Court in a 7-2 decision Thursday upheld a provision in then-President Trump’s sweeping 2017 tax bill while sidestepping a far-reaching question about Congress’s broader taxing authority. STORY: :: File Polish authorities have fined a hospital for denying an abortion to a woman whose pregnancy may have endangered her life. It marks a shift in the country with some of the strictest termination rules in Europe. :: October 2020 The country’s previous nationalist government introduced a near-total ban on abortion in 2021. They were only allowed in cases of rape, incest or threat to the woman’s health or life - but even then - doctors could still refuse to perform them on moral grounds. The issue has sparked massive protests in recent years. In 2023, women’s rights were front and center in the election campaign that ushered in a pro-European coalition government. It recently introduced a regulation to penalize publicly funded medical centers that refuse legal procedures. At the Foundation for Women and Family Planning in Warsaw, Antonina Lewandowska explains what happened in this case, to the 41-year-old woman who was 14 weeks pregnant: “The woman presented a certificate from a psychiatrist, which clearly stated that continuing this pregnancy was a threat to health or life. And this is a sufficient legal basis to terminate the pregnancy.” :: File The hospital requested more documentation and ultimately refused to perform the abortion. The woman ended up getting it at a different hospital. That was unlawful, according to Poland’s National Health Fund... which fined the hospital nearly $137,000. LEWANDOWSKA: “The aggrieved person contacted us as a foundation and informed us about the situation." // "…we think this is the first of many wins. We currently have a dozen or so cases that are pending before the patient ombudsman or have already been won. It is the beginning or signal of some upcoming change.” :: File The medical center plans to appeal the decision. The country’s health minister has warned there could be additional penalties coming at other facilities.
