The participation of many members of the Justice League and the encounters with Lex Luthor while he's under electronic surveillance add to the fun. The film moves like lightning, only to find some lulls in the storm to allow for a little humor and a lot of romance.

The Death of Superman screened at San Diego Comic-Con. It arrives on Digital July 24, 2018, and on Ultra HD Blu-ray Combo Pack, Blu-ray Combo Pack and DVD August 7th. Some SPOILERS follow.
The Death of Superman marks the third time in 11 years that a movie has killed off the Man of Steel, which makes this latest DC animated offering a tedious case of been there-done that. While this new version hews more closely to its bestselling 1992-1993 namesake comics event than either 2007’s Superman: Doomsday or 2016’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice did, it nevertheless lacks anything truly fresh or revelatory to add to this now well-worn tale. All the same beats are hit once again, Doomsday remains a lame villain, and all the sequel set-up undercuts the emotional impact of Superman’s tragic fate since the film almost immediately tells you all will be fine.
As endearing as some of the quieter character moments are here -- I.e., anything involving the sweet-natured, doting Kents or any comic relief from the oft-put upon Flash — The Death of Superman feels perfunctory, a by-the-numbers retelling that chucks in some relationship goals for Clark Kent (Jerry O’Connell) to meet so his inevitable death in Lois Lane’s (Rebecca Romijn) arms plays out all the more melodramatically. Unfortunately, the handling of Clark and Lois’s relationship feels both rushed and surprisingly late to the game here.
Meanwhile, Superman’s fellow heroes, the Justice League, play their respective roles in battling Doomsday and thus showing how necessary a godlike hero like Superman is compared to their range of abilities. Alas, only Wonder Woman (Rosario Dawson) comes across as having any true emotional connection to Superman for his death to register with.
Doomsday himself is merely a plot device, one there to make sure the film’s title event happens. There’s no real explanation for or meaning to him at all. He arrives, he kills a lot of people, and then he’s dealt with. Who is he? What is he? Where did he come from? He’s just a force of nature from another planet, devoid of either personality or perspective. As both a character and a visual design, this Doomsday is a one-note means to an end. He's the dullest character with the biggest claim to fame.
The Death of Superman never quite convinces why a third filmed retelling of this same comics story was necessary nor does it offer any approach to the material that’s substantially new. Doomsday is (still) a one-note cipher of a villain, and the film barely gives any of its rushed-through relationship plot elements the room they need to truly reson...
