Jackson, who plays a Los Angeles teacher caught with gang trouble in an urban high school. It also has John Heard, Kelly Rowan and Clifton Collins Jr. in supporting roles.
Samuel L. Jackson plays a teacher who is attacked and wounded by a student and moves to California to start over. The movie explores the challenges and dangers of teaching in inner-city schools, but ends with a controversial twist that Ebert criticizes.
