At the onset of World War II, a Southern, white, small-town couple -- attorney Temple Rayburn (James Woods) and his loving wife, Celia (Elizabeth McGovern) -- decide to take in Ben Tyler (Charles Mattocks), the mentally challenged African-American son of their deceased housekeeper.
