And, for the next decade or so, it would be a drinking fixture at nightclubs, dive bars and suburban dinner parties alike.
“Tequila Sunrise” is an intriguing movie with interesting characters, but it might have worked better if it had found a cleaner narrative line from beginning to end. It’s hard to surrender yourself to a film that seems to be toying with you.
However, audiences made Tequila Sunrise a big hit for Towne and for Warner Bros. It took in over $100 million on a $20 million budget and Conrad Hall earned an Oscar nomination for his cinematography.
