I am in a bit of a quandary with "Away From Here". When it comes to the technical merits of the film, it is well acted and very well made. But, on the other hand, I felt a bit angry as well as disturbed by what appears to be a plot that excuses sex offenses—at least one particular kind.
Away From Here is a story about James (played by Stahl), a convicted sex offender that has spent the last 6 years behind bars. He was having a secret affair with the 15-year-old daughter of the pastor that had mentored him. Upon his release, James decides to return home and move on with his life.
May 5, 2014 · It’s called “Away from Here,” and like “The Woodsman,” it treats a normally sensational subject, adult sex with minors, with refreshing sensitivity. Directed by Bruce Van Dusen, it’s a raw, sweet-natured film, brilliantly-acted by leads Nick Stahl and Alicia Witt, and it deserves wider attention.

Review. Away From Here is definitely a good watch. The hometown scenes and beautiful scenery is absolutely beautiful. The acting is impeccable for a low budget film. Nick Stahl did a wonderful job bringing his character to life as well as did Alicia Witt. This film deserves an 8 out of 10.
