Temperamental opera star Linda Hlliday (Hope Hampton) leaves New York City and heads for Reno, Nevada in order to get a quickie divorce from her Nevada-rancher husband, Steve Fortness (Randolph Scott), as he wants her to give up her career and live on the ranch with him.
Synopsis. After a final New York performance, opera singer Linda Halliday boards a train bound for Reno, where she intends to divorce her ranch owner husband, Steve Fortness, with whom she did not live because he protested her career.

On the train, Lee meets Tom Wood, a young, earnest, working-class engineer who is headed to San Francisco for his first job. Tom and Lee fall in love, and he writes to her from San Francisco.
