Isamu Noguchi (1904–1988) was one of the twentieth century’s most important and critically acclaimed sculptors. Through a lifetime of artistic experimentation, he created sculptures, gardens, furniture and lighting designs, ceramics, architecture, landscapes, and set designs.
As the artist’s estate, The Noguchi Museum holds the world’s largest and most extensive collection of Isamu Noguchi’s sculptures, drawings, models, and designs.
Founded in 1985 by category-defying artist Isamu Noguchi (1904–1988), The Isamu Noguchi Garden Museum (now known as The Noguchi Museum), was the first museum in the United States to be established, designed, and installed by a living artist to show their own work.
The Noguchi Museum, located in Long Island City, Queens, is housed in a repurposed 1920s red brick industrial building, with an attached concrete pavilion designed and built in the 1980s by Isamu Noguchi (1904–1988) in collaboration with Shoji Sadao (1927–2019).
