Erskine Ramsay Hawkins (July 26, 1914 – November 11, 1993) was an American trumpeter and big band leader from Birmingham, Alabama, dubbed "The 20th Century Gabriel". He is best remembered for composing the jazz standard " Tuxedo Junction " (1939) with saxophonist and arranger Bill Johnson .

ERSKINE HAWKINS, BORN IN BIRMINGHAM, ALABAMA on July 26, 1914, was a renowned trumpeter, big bandleader, and composer. Nicknamed the “Twentieth-Century Gabriel,” because of his heavenly trumpet play, Hawkins gained fame as a member of the ‘Bama State Collegians, one of the finest college bands in the 1930s.
