In the fall of 1971 Jim Henman left the band and was replaced by Montreal native Jim Clench. Famed producer Ralph Murphy worked with the group on their second album On Record. Murphy’s mission was to give April Wine a major international hit and he came very close to doing just that.
The reunited band consisted of Goodwyn, Greenway, returning drummer Jerry Mercer and bassist Jim Clench, who hadn't played with the band since 1975. Filling out the act was third guitarist Steve Segal. The band toured in both Canada and the US.
