Tokyo-based Moon Records was originally founded in 1982 as Alfa / Moon by Ryūzō Kosugi as a sister label to Alfa Records. In 1990, it was added under the umbrella of Warner Music Group. At this point, it merged with the Mother & Children and Garland labels and by using the first letters of all three labels, MMG became the new company's name.
