Stephen "Steph" Carpenter (/ˈstɛfən/ STEF-ən; born August 3, 1970) is an American musician, known as the co-founder and lead guitarist of the alternative metal band Deftones. His guitar technique makes use of both ringing open strings and dissonant chord voicings, as well as stock power chords in polyrhythms .

Deftones is an American alternative metal band formed in Sacramento, California in 1988. As such, the Deftones guitarist will now formally endorse two guitar brands, and will play both Kiesel models and his variety of ESP signature guitars going forward.
