Gyula Peidl (4 April 1873 – 22 January 1943) was a Hungarian trade union leader and social democrat politician who served as prime minister and acting head of state of Hungary for 6 days in August 1919.

On August 1, 1919, Gyula Peidl, a moderate, formed an all-Social Democratic government; but if the first revolution had managed to discredit liberal democracy, the second had ruined the reputation of the Social Democratic Party whose leadership, with few exceptions, had actively partici pated in Bela Kun's Soviet regime.

The text of the memorandum handed to Gyula Peidl by an interministerial delegation demanding a reorganization of the government was read by Csilléry in Parliament, August 2, 1922; in Kalmér, Kik hostak be a románokat, pp. 75-76. Peidl refused their demands.

Hungary had 20,000 troops facing the Romanian Army and mobilised a further 60,000. There were recruitment centres in towns such as Nagyvárad, Gyula, Debrecen and Szolnok. There were some elite units and officers from the former Austro-Hungarian Army, but some were volunteers with little training.
Gyula Peidl, a leader of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), formed a government as prime minister on August 2, 1919. Romanian troops occupied Budapest on August 4, 1919, and Istvan Friedrich formed a government as prime minister on August 6, 1919.
