Henry Carey, 1st Baron Hunsdon, KG, PC (4 March 1526 – 23 July 1596), was an English nobleman and courtier. He was the patron of the Lord Chamberlain's Men, William Shakespeare 's playing company. The son of Mary Boleyn, he was a cousin of Elizabeth I .
The monument to Henry Carey, 1st Baron Hunsdon (died 1596) is the tallest in Westminster Abbey, at thirty-six feet high. Various members of his family are buried in the Carey vault.

Jul 27, 2015 · Queen Elizabeth knighted Henry Carey and also made him Baron Hunsdon. She also visited him on his deathbed, offering him the Earldom of Wiltshire (once owned by his grandfather Thomas Boleyn). For her part, Catherine Carey was one of Queen Elizabeth I's senior ladies and was greatly loved by the Queen.
Baron Hunsdon is a title that has been created three times. It was first created in 1559 in the Peerage of England for the soldier and courtier Henry Carey. His grandson, the fourth Baron, was created by Viscount Rochford in 1621 and Earl of Dover, in the County of Kent, in 1628.
After receiving a knighthood in November 1558, early in the following year he was created Baron Hunsdon of Hunsdon, a title probably deriving from his childhood connexion with the royal residence there.
On this day in Tudor history, 4th March 1526, in the reign of King Henry VIII, courtier and administrator, Henry Carey, 1st Baron Hunsdon, was born. Hunsdon was the only son of Mary Boleyn and her first husband, William Carey, esquire of the body to Henry VIII.
