Rigoberta Menchú (born January 9, 1959, Chimel, Guatemala) is a Guatemalan Indian-rights activist, who was awarded the Nobel Prize for Peace in 1992. Menchú, of the Quiché Maya group, spent her childhood helping with her family’s agricultural work; she also likely worked on coffee plantations.
