The Roger Williams National Memorial is a 4.5-acre (1.8 ha) park located near the eastern bank of the Moshassuck River, east of the Rhode Island State House and north of Downtown Providence. It stands at the base of College Hill, upon which the early settlement of Providence was concentrated.

Rhode Island's Roger Williams National Memorial commemorates the life of Rhode Island's founder, a champion of the ideal of religious freedom. Williams, banished from Massachusetts for his beliefs, founded Providence in 1636.
This spiritual and intellectual paradise to some was considered a hotbed of heresy to others. In 1965, Congress authorized the creation of the memorial and the 4.5-acre park opened to the public in the 1980s.
The Visitor Center provides and in-depth interpretation of Roger Williams through a short park film and an exhibit area dedicated to him. View two information panels, a model of a cabin similar to those of the time period, a display case with copies of some of Williams’ writings, and a statue of the man make up the entire museum.
Roger Williams National Memorial, a unit of the National Park System, is located at 282 N. Main St. in the College Hill Historic District in Providence, RI. The Memorial is open from 9:00am to 4:30pm except Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Day.
