Horace Mann School (also known as Horace Mann or HM) is a private, independent college-preparatory school in the Bronx, founded in 1887. Horace Mann is a member of the Ivy Preparatory School League, educating students from the New York metropolitan area from nursery school to the twelfth grade.
Dedicated to teaching students in nursery through grade twelve in the traditional fields of humane learning with rigor and passion. There is an abundant array of courses with broad exposure to the arts, the humanities, and the sciences.

Horace Mann School was founded by Nicholas Murray Butler in 1887 as a coeducational experimental and developmental unit of Teachers College, Columbia University. In 1947, it became an independent day school for boys in grades seven through twelve.

Horace Mann has a strong commitment to providing Financial Aid to students who could not otherwise attend. All Financial Aid is based on need; no merit scholarships are awarded. For the 2023-2024 academic year, 15% of the students receive more than $14,000,000 in Financial Aid.
Mann was elected to the Massachusetts legislature in 1827, and in that role was active in the interests of education, public charities, and laws for the suppression of alcoholic drinks and lotteries. He established an asylum in Worcester, and in 1833 was chairman of its board of trustees.
