Cheney is the windiest lake in the lower 48 states, with an average wind speed of 13.9 mph, and is listed as one of the top ten lakes in the nation for sailing and windsurfing. The lake at Cheney State Park features some of the best fishing and boating activities in the State.
The lake has approximately 9,500 water surface acres, 7,400 land acres and 67 miles of shoreline. Accessible from numerous roads. Several boat ramps, camping facilities.
Cheney Reservoir is a reservoir on the North Fork Ninnescah River in Reno, Kingman, and Sedgwick counties of Kansas in the United States. [5] Built and managed by the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation for local water supply, it is also used for flood control and recreation. Cheney State Park is located on its shore.
The designation of Lake Ontario National Marine Sanctuary is supported by local governments (in Jefferson, Wayne, Cayuga, and Oswego counties), the governor of New York, the Onondaga Nation, and several historical societies, museums, recreation, conservation, tourism, and education groups. NOAA and the state of New York will co-manage the sanctuary.
