Halloween is the sixth episode of the second season and the 16th overall episode of Rutherford Falls.
Reagan and Nelson attend Wayne's Halloween house party. Nathan meets Deirdre's parents.
Reagan tells Nelson she can't believe how much he loves Halloween despite all the cultural appropriation. Nelson says Halloween is about celebrating their trickster side. Plus pumpkins are indigenous. Reagan says Halloween is meh to her. At best, you get candy. At worst, you're tipsy in a bar, ripping a store-bought headdress off some idiot. Nelson says he'll need help getting into his costume tomorrow. It has a lot of zippers. Nelson's amused by the Halloween-themed menu.
Deirdre comes downstairs and points a gun at a surprised Nathan. He apologizes for scaring her and then points out that she's carrying a massage gun. She tells him the spare key was for emergencies. He says he brought her a handcrafted crib for the baby. He wants the baby to have the best, so he made it himself. He admits it was wrong to break into her house to deliver it. He also has zucchini bread, but he's worried about overstepping, so he goes to leave. She says the zucchini bread can stay because the baby loves it. There's a knock at the door. It's the police, because Deirdre called them when she thought Nathan was an intruder. Nathan says it sounds like Callahan, who loves his zucchini bread. He tries to take it, but Deirdre won't give it up. He goes to handle it.
In the back seat, Jimmy laughs and his parents exchange a look. Renee asks him if he has Halloween plans. He says no. Terry doesn't believe that's true because he's cool and cool kids always have plans. Jimmy asks why they never bug Maya and Terry says because Maya's a nerd so there's no need. Renee adds that Maya is in Alberta on a cultural exchange program with the Blood Tribe, or they'd be on her, too. Jimmy says he's going trick or treating with a girl. Renee doesn't believe him, but Jimmy swears it's the truth. Renee asks who the girl is and reminds him that she knows everyone at his school. Jimmy just shrugs. Terry says until he feels more comfortable, he can just pass out candy with his mom.
At the beading circle, Reagan tells Nathan that breaking into Deirdre's house wasn't his best move. Nathan says it was a gesture of love, but also, a bad move. Rayanne asks if he really built a crib on his own. When he says yes, she says she has some nieces he should meet. Reagan tells him he should come to Wayne and Sally's Halloween party with her and Nelson. Chloe asks if Nelson is her man and she confirms that he is. They're even going in a couples costume this year. He's a hot dog and she's ketchup. Chloe says Nelson is a catch. It's hard to find men like him. There's like eight women for every Native man.
Bobbie, in a penny costume, says they can get an endorsement from the teachers' union if they agree to take down their "Overheard at Rutherford High" account. Terry's not listening, though, because he's too busy thinking about Jimmy's refusal to name the girl. As Terry talks about Renee trying to figure out who the girl is, Bobbie's already figured it out. Through social media, they learned that Jimmy is dating someone named Emma, a sophomore who is also Native. Terry asks Bobbie to remind him later about a business associate he's pretty sure faked his own death. Bobbie says there's some drama and shows Terry a picture of Emma with Feather Day. Emma is Emma Day, Feather's daughter.
At Wayne and Sally's party, Wayne comments that Nelson even smells like a hot dog. Nathan has a headset because it makes him "pop" corn guy when combined with his corn cob costume. Reagan squirts real ketchup. Wayne says they're all whack. Nathan gets a text from Deirdre asking where he got the charcuterie plate he brought over. He texts her saying he made it. He wonders if he should pop over with a refill. Reagan tells him he should stop popping over. He doesn't like the idea of his baby wanting for anything and it'll give him the chance to apologize for before. He leaves and Nelson comments that that was the wrong move, which Reagan says is what Nathan does. Reagan and Nelson lean in so they can take a selfie together, but they're interrupted by Chloe, Shauna, and Fay, who are also dressed as condiments. Chloe says Reagan inspired her at the beading circle and she told the others about Nelson and Reagan's costume and they got inspired, too. Nelson is pleased to have inspired them, but Reagan knows their true motive is to steal Nelson.
