Apr 7, 2019 · With the passing of Arthur Polonsky (June 6, 1925 - April 4, 2019) the last link to the greatest generation of Boston artists has been broken. They are known and somewhat misrepresented as The Boston Expressionists. Of which Arthur, my professor, mentor and friend was a member of the second generation.

Arthur Polonsky (June 6, 1925 – April 4, 2019) was a figurative painter, draughtsman and educator, known for his explorations of light, water, flight and similarly lyrical motifs that, in esoteric and unsettling ways, alluded to myth, fantasy, music, the Bible, or the poetry of Symbolist and Modernist poets like Rimbaud and Rilke.
For seven decades his paintings, drawings, and prints have been shown and collected by major museums and galleries worldwide, including The White House and Boston MFA. He is in Who’s Who in American Art, and reviewed in Art in America, The Boston Globe, and New York Times.
