Anselm Feuerbach (born September 12, 1829, Speyer, Bavaria [now in Germany]—died January 4, 1880, Venice, Italy) was one of the leading German painters of the mid-19th century working in a Romantic style of Classicism. Feuerbach was the son of a classical archaeologist and the nephew of the philosopher Ludwig Feuerbach.
