Nov 24, 2013 · Sommerfeld was assistant of the mathematician Felix Klein (1849–1925) and of the mineralogist Theodor Liebisch (1852–1922) in Göttingen, obtaining his habilitation there in 1895. He then was appointed professor in 1897 at the Clausthal School of Mining, moving later to the Royal Rhine-Westphalian Polytechnical School at Aachen.
