As you might imagine, a Caribbean Chinatown in Havana is quite different from its global counterparts. In the capital of Cuba, this “Barrio Chino” is a remnant of a population of Chinese migrants that once called Havana their home - leaving behind a legacy to their neighbors and descendants.
Like many cities world wide Havana has its China Town, Barrio Chino. The Chinese came to Cuba after 1857 to work in the sugar fields, but many of them left Cuba when the revolution came i 1959. Today very few Chinese are back in Cuba and have been assimilated with the Cuban population.

Chinatown. The Chinatown of Havana is located near the National Capitol of Cuba, between Amistad and Dragones streets, in the municipality of Centro Habana in the province of La Habana. The neighborhood is formed by five small streets, the most important is Calle de Los Dragones.
By the 1920s Havana's Chinatown had become the biggest Asian neighborhood in Latin America, a bustling hub of industry that spawned laundries, pharmacies, theaters and grocery stores. The slide began in the early 1960s, when thousands of business-minded Chinese relocated to the US.
Residents of Latin American Chinatowns tend to be multilingual. Latin America's Chinatowns include those of Mexico City, Havana, Buenos Aires, and Lima. Some of these Chinatowns mainly serve as tourist attractions and not as true, living ethnic communities.
