The Boardwalk accepts cash and cashless payment including Visa, Mastercard, Discover, Apple Pay, Samsung Pay, Google Pay at all Ticket Booths, Season Pass Office, Guest Services, retail locations and MyBoardwalk Kiosks. Food and all attractions and midway games accept cashless payment only.

For wrist bands/cards, it really depends on how much you want to do. If you want to ride rides a decent amount, wrist bands are the way to go. If you just want to do a couple, get the cards because you can use them in arcades and some food spots too.
