Kentucky Wildcats head coach John Calipari brought back one of his former players as an assistant, point guard Tyler Ulis. So far, Ulis has been helping the Wildcats’ headman get his incoming crop of young talent prepared for the upcoming season. But his presence is doing something else for Kentucky this season.
He’s now back in the Kentucky basketball facilities helping the current Wildcats in practice however he can. “I’m extremely excited to get around the kids and give them some of my expertise, and then at the same time, learn from Coach [Cal],” Ulis said Monday. It’s not just for show, either.
Ulis has a future in coaching if he wants it, clearly. His path to becoming a head coach is clear, and he may choose to take it. Until that day comes, though, Kentucky will certainly appreciate his time on Calipari’s bench as a student assistant.
