John Joseph Burnette (March 25, 1934 – August 14, 1964) was an American singer and songwriter of rockabilly and pop music. [1] In 1952, Johnny, his brother, Dorsey Burnette, and their mutual friend Paul Burlison, formed the band that became known as the Rock and Roll Trio. [2]
After dark on August 14, 1964, Johnny’s fishing boat was struck by an unaware cabin cruiser on Clearlake in Northern California. The impact threw him off the boat and he drowned. He was 30 years old.

Paul Burlison retired from the music business for several years before re-creating the Rock and Roll Trio in the 80s; he would later release a solo album aptly titled Train Kept A-Rollin in 1997.
