John Edward Gray FRS (12 February 1800 – 7 March 1875) was a British zoologist. He was the elder brother of zoologist George Robert Gray and son of the pharmacologist and botanist Samuel Frederick Gray (1766–1828).
John Edward Gray (1800-1875), naturalist, was born on 12 February 1800 at Walsall, Staffordshire, England, the second son of Samuel Frederick Gray. He began to study for the medical profession but abandoned it and took up zoology.

He worked on barnacles, a group of animals that Darwin studied for his book on the sub-class Cirripedia. He also wrote a monograph on barnacles and helped Darwin with his research.
