Feb 26, 2023 · Newport County is one of the seven regions of the state of Rhode Island. It was established in 1703 with four original towns: Jamestown, Portsmouth, Newport, and New Shoreham. The towns of Little Compton and Tiverton became part of the county in the mid-1740s, with the town of Fall River being split off Tiverton.
