Old Parliament House, formerly known as the Provisional Parliament House, was the seat of the Parliament of Australia from 1927 to 1988. The building began operation on 9 May 1927 after Parliament's relocation from Melbourne to the new capital, Canberra .

Parliament House was designed by Mitchell/Giurgola & Thorp Architects and built by Concrete Constructions and John Holland joint venture. [1] It was opened on 9 May 1988 by Elizabeth II, Queen of Australia. It cost more than $1.1 billion [2] (equivalent to about $4.9 billion in 2022) to build.
