    Coyote Creek was originally named Arroyo del Coyote by Padre Pedro Font when the de Anza Expedition reached it on Sunday, March 31, 1776.

    Although it is called a "creek", Coyote Creek is actually a river draining 320 square miles and running 63.6 miles from the confluence of its East Fork and Middle Fork to southeast San Francisco Bay.
