The beach is a sandy beach about 700 metres (2,300 ft) long between St Kilda Marina and St Kilda Harbour along Jacka Boulevard and St Kilda Esplanade.
St Kilda Beach is 6 km (4 miles) from the Melbourne CBD, it's an easy trip by tram. The beach is popular with swimmers and sunbathers. Other water sports include windsurfing and jet skis. St Kilda Beach has been made famous by the Esplanade Hotel, said to be Australia's premier live music venue.
