Built in 1917 as the Turtle Creek High School, this historic school re-opened in 2009 as the Woodland Hills Academy. It currently serves students in kindergarten through grade eight.
It serves the communities of Braddock, Braddock Hills, Chalfant, Churchill, East Pittsburgh, Edgewood, Forest Hills, North Braddock, Rankin, Swissvale, Turtle Creek and Wilkins Township. Woodland Hills Junior / Senior High School was the result of a 1981 court-ordered desegregation merger.
The group, originally named the Val-Aires, formed in 1958 at Turtle Creek High School. They signed with Pittsburgh manager Elmer Willet, who produced their first recording release "Which One Will It Be/Launie My Love".
