Indie rock- A genre of music and cult following of younger generation which is striving to be different from pop music followers. Music is often “underground”, not known to popular audiences because of independent record labels. The musical style combines british punk, rock and roll, and heavy metal.

Indie rock is a genre of alternative rock that originated in the United Kingdom and the United States in the 1980s. Indie rock is extremely diverse, with sub-genres that include indie pop, jangle pop, C86, and lo-fi, among others.

Indie music is focused on quality of song. This means that the music is acoustic or acoustic-type. At its heart, indie music is related to jazz and folk music. If we take a look at indie musicians, we are able to see what indie music represents. Indie musicians take risks, because they believe that doing so is important.

Indie rock takes its name from "independent," which describes both the do-it-yourself attitudes of its bands and the small, lower-budget nature of the labels that release the music.

Obviously Indie is also a type of music which is generally soft-style rock without screaming or moshing sometime mixed with synthisised music and electronic, and is also generally on a independant record label and not well known.

Indie definition, an independently or privately owned business, especially a film or music company that is not affiliated with a larger and more commercial company: to work for an indie.
