With the exception of a 1,000 feet (300 m)-long section in La Cañada Flintridge, the entire route is part of California State Route 2 .

Angeles Crest Christian Camp, founded in the 1940s to support the Christian Churches/Church of Christ camping outreach ministry, is a beautiful wooded campus located at the 6,000-foot peak of a crest of the San Gabriel Mountains, just an hour and a half outside of LA.
The Angeles Crest Scenic Byway. SR2 runs 66 miles from La Cañada-Flintridge to the Mountain Top junction at SR138. The concept for "the most scenic and picturesque mountain road in the state" was developed in 1912, and the funding allocated beginning in 1919. The construction, piece by piece, started in 1929 and continued until 1956, with the exception of the years 1941 through 1946 during WWII.
