The City Tavern is a late-20th century building designed to be the replica of the historic 18th-century tavern and hotel building which stood on the site. It is located at 138 South 2nd Street in Philadelphia, at the intersection of Second and Walnut streets, near Independence Hall.

Beginning in 1789, the first two floors of the Tavern were used by Merchants for the buying and selling of goods from incoming ships. The establishment was renamed the City Tavern and Place of Exchange. In 1834, the volume of trade at the Exchange could no longer be accommodated at the Tavern.
